Good Afternoon. I just got back from the Channel Partners Expo and am sitting down to organize all my notes and memories from the event. The Channel Partners Expo is a gathering of several thousand Telecom Service brokers, value-added resellers, managed service providers, integrators, consultants and suppliers. Everything telecom and lots of it.
One of the big topics this year was Unified Communications. Unified Communications is a platform solution where businesses can merge all or most of their telecom tools under one overarching system to increase efficiency and lower costs.
As with any software platform these days, it can be difficult to put together a definitive description of what Unified Communications (UC) really is. The best description I have heard so far is that it is the integration of the equipment, software and services tools that help people exchange ideas and do their jobs more effectively. It includes E-mail, Internet, Video Conferencing, Telephones, Cloud Computing and other tools that businesses are already using. A good UC implementation makes it easy to support new technologies and growth.
In a future post, I am going to cover an aspect of Unified Communication that is really taking off, Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS). This provides all of the service of a UC solution without all the infrastructure and Maintenance costs.
